Barbara Morris:
Should
You Cherish What Old Age Offers You?
Several years ago I decided to limit speaking
engagements to audiences of midlife or younger
women. I made the decision after speaking to what I was led to
believe were boomer women. I spoke about how to manage
the aging process to develop maximum potential
in their mature years. During the question and
answer session that followed an older women stood up
and in a
very pained, irritated tone of voice asked, “Why
can’t we just accept getting old? Why do we try
to stay young when we know that’s impossible?”
It was clear she had heard my talk but hadn’t
listened to it. She totally misinterpreted my
message.
It was upsetting to me that I had
unintentionally offended the woman. I now turn
down many speaking engagements because I don’t
want to possibly upset older women who are happy
with where they are in life. My message is for
older
women with a fire in their belly, a zest for
life and want to leave their imprint on the
world in spite of their chronological age.
This
idea that we need to focus exclusively on
advancement as a career path needs an overhaul.
We sacrifice “out” into a broader life
experience and “around” into a more meaningful
context when we focus exclusively on “up” in our
work lives.
A few days ago I did a
presentation about giving those old enough to
retire a way to keep working on a flexible
basis. It’s important, but it’s only part of
the picture. A wise 40-year old who spoke to me
after the speech hammered this home when he said
“You need to do something for those of us
standing in line who deserve a chance to lead,
too.”
He’s right. It’s another
piece of getting “work” to really work.
Joyce Shafer:
Be True to You at
Your Crossroads Point
Have you ever stood or are you
standing at a crossroads now, not positively
certain which path to take? What technique do
you use to choose?
You may turn to family or friends
for their thoughts and ideas. This is one tactic
if you’re looking to brainstorm for ideas,
methods, and techniques to consider. Some who
are well-meaning may say, “Let me tell you what
you ought to do,” or they use the dreaded word
“should.” When this happens, nod politely, but
stay true to yourself.
Crossroads are opportunities to
aim at the target(s) that help you create your
desired reality, even if it’s just to do
something different and you aren’t quite sure
what yet. That happens. Such times may cause
anxiety; but that’s usually because somewhere at
the back of your mind or deep in your heart, you
wonder, “Can I or should I really go for it?”
As
always, there are some really helpful links you
won't want to miss. There
is something for everyone.
For example, if you have been toying with using
Latisse eye drops to lengthen your lashes, you
may want to think twice. The FDA claims
advertising for the product does not adequately
show potential risks, in spite the Brooke
Shields enticing endorsement. I've read
the product information and there is no way I
would use it. Check out the link.
There are also a couple of interesting videos --
one claiming boomers cost hospitals too much
money and the other about the Swine flu by Dr.
Mercola.

If Adults Who
Abused You As A Child Ask You To Be Their
Caregivers . . .
Mackenzie Phillips' revelation about her 10-year
sexual relationship with her father raises a
caregiver question: what do you do if the adults
who abused you as a child ask you to be their
caregivers?
If you face this question, you are not alone.
How many adult caregivers are in this group? We
don't really know; the shame and secrecy
surrounding incest make it hard to study.
However, some experts speculate that up to one
in five adults were abused as children. Others
say it's as high as one in three.
The number of
ways your identity can be stolen is increasing. Social media identity
theft, Facebook jacking, mCrime with mobile
phone hacking and harassing, cyber bullying, and
the list goes on. Take a look at this video. You
may not believe it is possible.

"If It's Not Food Don't Eat it"
Barbara,
Months ago, I emailed you and mentioned a very
influential book called "If It's Not Food Don't
Eat It". That book put me on a path to becoming
responsible for my own health. Just recently I
have come across another life changing book
entitled "The Self Health Revolution" by
J. Michael Zenn. It is a small book but after
reading it, one will never see things the same
regarding our culture, our food supply, or our
state of health in the US. This book points out
that we must pay close attention to what we put
into our bodies as well as on it.
Please be aware that this book will turn some
routines regarding our health and life upside
down but to ignore it's wisdom is to choose
the same disease, obesity and early death
patterns our culture is famous for.
Everyone should read it if they care about being
having an energy filled and healthy life. An
add-on to this book is "Never Be Sick Again" by
Raymond Francis.
Bottom line, it is all about choices and boy do
we make some deadly ones!
Thanks, as always for your enlightening
newsletter. It is one of my stops on the way to
my personal PhD in health. :)

Promising Information
If
someone you know is dealing with Alzheimer's,
Parkinson's MS, ALS or any other
neurodegenerative disease you will want to get a
copy of the October, 2009 issue of Dr. Julian
Whitaker's "Health and Healing" newsletter.
(800-539-8219) He offers an entirely different,
safe and helpful approach to treating these
diseases, and best of all, you don't need a
prescription or your doctor's permission. If
his suggestions don't help they won't hurt which is more than
can be said for prescription medications used to
treat these diseases.
In the same issue Dr.
Whitaker suggests adequate doses of Vitamin D3
for Swine Flu.
