Government Busybodies: Does Granny Really
Need a Nanny?
(Caution: Crabby Editor at Work!)
Given the bleak state of the economy and the
likelihood that it won’t get better any time soon, wouldn’t you think government
at all levels would reconsider nonessential spending? What a dumb thought.
Government exists to spend.
I read an article in a Connecticut newspaper
titled “Redefining retirement: Planners think about future services.” This is
nothing new – cities and towns all over the country waste taxpayer money to
entertain and babysit healthy seniors.
So that I am not perceived as a total
grouch, I have nothing against helping seniors in need. (It’s a selfish motive,
really. One day I may be a senior, but not
likely).
☺
I don’t think seniors who are
capable of doing for themselves need taxpayer provided senior centers, dance
classes, book groups, basket weaving, meditation classes, or other activities
healthy seniors could provide for themselves with their own money.

Mary Lloyd:
The Wisdom of Seeking Wisdom

One of the many sad consequences of our
preoccupation with youth is that we don’t pay
much attention to wisdom. That’s like worrying
about what color to paint the garage and
ignoring the Ferrari that’s housed inside.
Wisdom, per Merriam Webster’s is “accumulated
philosophic or scientific learning: KNOWLEDGE”
or “ability to discern inner qualities and
relationships: INSIGHT” or “good sense:
JUDGMENT.” Roll it all together and you get “a
wise attitude, belief, or course of action.”
Wisdom is a key to living well. But aspiring to
it is not typically on our lists of New Year’s
resolutions or personal goal statements.

Ginger Martin: My Recipe
for Hot Lips
I
used to have a problem with chronic chapped lips
for at least some of the winter, despite our use
of a humidifier to make sure the house doesn't
get too dry.
My lips, at my age, were also starting to look a
bit paler and thinner and duller than they did
when I was younger.
So I am delighted to say I haven't had a problem
with chapped lips AT ALL this winter--and they
look naturally plumper and rosier and healthier
than they have in years--since I've been doing
the following:
Using a Buf-Puf on my lips every evening last
thing before going to bed, after brushing my
teeth (a soft toothbrush or even a washcloth
would probably work in place of a Buf-Puf, too).
After a few times you get a feel for how gently
you need to do this--you want it to stimulate
circulation, but not to be too hard on your lips.
Then I apply lip balm--it hasn't seemed to
matter which kind; they've all worked well so
far--I like ones with healing/moisturizing
ingredients.
Then I wake up the next morning with rosy,
smooth, healthy-looking lips that aren't the
least bit chapped!
This isn't just something I'm going to limit to
winter--this simple routine makes my mouth look
so much healthier and rosier and younger (and
plumper, with no artificial plumping agents), I
intend to make it part of my permanent evening
routine all year round.
It might be a good idea to do it in the morning,
too--and I do, when I remember!
It has really nice results.

Cancer and MS Alert:
Learn About Low Dose Naltrexone
If someone you love died from some
form of cancer after having gone through the
nightmare "treatment" of chemo and surgery, you may harbor some
resentment at the medical community that
continues to close its collective eyes and ears to
non-conventional therapies that work. Not only
that, but the hold that oncologists have on the
mind and emotions of cancer victims is so strong
that it often destroys the ability of patients
to make informed choices.
I have been reading a lot about low dose
naltrexone (LDN)and its use in cancer and MS. My
interest was recently piqued after watching videos on YouTube (there are many about LDN).
Naltrexone was developed in the 1960's as part
of the government's War on Drugs. It was
intended as a treatment or preventive for
narcotics addiction. However, it was never
popular with addicts because it causes severe
withdrawal issues. It is also used as a
treatment for alcoholism.
There is a book you may want to read:
Potential Benefits in Cancer, Autoimmune,
Neurological and Infectious Disorders by
Elaine Moore, co-author SammyJo Wilkinson,
Foreword by Dr. Yash Agrawal, MD, PhD. There is a
link to Amazon in the right hand column to
read reviews and purchase the book.
The book covers the use in LDN in the following
disease categories:
Autoimmune Diseases
Multiple Sclerosis
Neurodegenerative Disorders
Cancer
Autism Spectrum Disorders
LDN in Wound Healing and Infections
The Immune System and LDN in HIV/AIDS
The LDN Experience: A Patient’s Guide to LDN
If you have a friend or
family member with an open mind who is dealing
with cancer or any of the disease categories
listed above, this book could be more than
helpful.
