Barbara Morris:
Have a Facelift to Get or Keep a Job?
A recent article by Penelope Trunk,
"Why Your Career Needs Plastic
Surgery-Literally"created a firestorm of mostly
negative comments. The gist of her article is
that if you want to get ahead in the business
world, you have to look good. That means,
possibly having cosmetic surgery, fixing your
teeth, and being in shape.
Many women satisfied with how they look didn't
like Ms. Trunk's advice. Most were adamant that
their ordinary appearance did not hinder their
success. But then, how could they know for sure?
Perhaps an above average appearance would have
paid off in even greater success.
Announcing a no-cost, non-surgical way to look younger!!!
Smile.
We spend a lot of time, money, and effort trying to "make the most of what
we've got" but there really is a lot of truth to the suggestion that inner
beauty improves your looks far more effectively. And inner beauty is totally
a matter of personal choices rather than medical advances.
We tend to believe that the things we want most are going to cost us. Beauty
(or "handsomeness" if you prefer) is one of those things. But beauty is more
about what you're thinking than which face cream you are using. Or how many
cosmetic surgery procedures you can afford.
Henry Montag: What
is 'The Preferred Method of Care'?
As a Certified Financial Planner
concentrating in the elder care market, I've long advocated that parents
should be actively involved in the process of choosing a preferred method
of care--if, and when, it became necessary for them to move into an
assisted living facility or nursing home.
Indeed, I've received heartwarming
phone calls from parents and children alike who thanked me for getting the
entire family involved in choosing caregivers and initiating a Family
Meeting, years before they were actually needed.

Do You Rub Your
Thoughts the Wrong Way?
There
is a phrase, "That person rubs me the wrong
way," that basically means the person (though it
also could be a situation) doesn't make you feel
good. You, at times, do this with your thoughts
(most of us do); so what works to shift this?
Esther Hicks of Abraham fame has a video on
YouTube, "Now Is Where All Your Power Is, Part
2," where she likens feeding negative
thoughts-any thoughts that take you out of
feeling good-with rubbing your hand on
sandpaper. You wouldn't rub your hand on
sandpaper for an extended period of time because
it would hurt, remove skin, require healing,
maybe lead to infection, and so on.
I didn't understand it. When I mentioned
to a friend that I planned to go to Victoria's Secret the next day, she put
her coffee cup down abruptly and stared at me as if I had just landed from
another planet. I was explaining why we couldn't meet for lunch. As I
reviewed our conversation, I realized the cause of her reaction.
She probably thinks that Victoria's Secret is for 20-yeqr-olds.Wrong! Don't
they have beautiful, lacy things in there for females? Okay! I'm a female; I
can go in if I want! (I decided not to tell her that I go in there often.)

Marriages
A study of over 400 women worldwide, who were left
out-of-the-blue
from what they believed to be happy marriages,
led to the discovery of Wife Abandonment Syndrome.
Imagine that you're a happily married woman in the midst of a stable and
secure long-term marriage. Now imagine that you come home one day and find a
scribbled note from your husband in the middle of the kitchen table with two
words on it - "It's over."
