  • Shame on Judge Judy!

Don 't get me wrong. I love Her Honor. If every kid to had a no-nonsense Judge Judy type mother there would be fewer problems in the world.

Here's what happened. Judge Judy was sharing her wisdom on the Larry King show, and the conversation turned to computers. Frankly, I think we would all be better off if Al Gore hadn't discovered the Internet and Bill Gates had never tinkered in his garage but computers are here to stay and I love them. But I digress.

Joyce Shafer Wisdom: Life is to Be Possessed -- Not Endured

The actual line is from a novel by P.D., James: "...preserving always the same look of puzzled acceptance of a life which had to be endured rather than possessed."

Every day, each of us endures something even if it's an inconvenience of lesser magnitude. Some people endure much more than most of us ever think about having to. When we find ourselves facing a challenge we believe we can do nothing about, we can still take possession of it. When we take possession of something, we generally take care of it or care for it; or, at least, that is the idea.

    Useful Links for December

This link provides a list of items (and links to them) that I've found during Novembr. I've chosen them to encourage you to take better care of yourself, and to help you understand the importance of taking supplements. The list is long -- take a look -- you never know what you will find that may make a difference in your life.

    Must See Video

This is a realy cute cartoon video with a very important message, deliverd in a way that should offend no one. Take a look at the problem that beset the Town of Allopath and how it was solved, but not without resistance. It should really motivate you to think about how our health care system works

Free Skin Care Samples & Free Beauty Product Samples

Take a look at this link. Some deals are better than others. Most require payment of shipping and handling which may not make it worthwhile. But there are a lot of interesting products, many from major companies.

Middle Age is A Myth -- Don't Buy Into It

Recently I ran into a man I worked with several years ago and the first thing he said after "hello" was "Barbara, aren't you ever going to get old? I assured him I didn't have time to get old and we both laughed. He had aged considerably since I last saw him and to make matters worse, he had a face full of scruffy vegetation that hid lines and wrinkles. But the attempted cover-up made him look even older. Beards do that, you know. ☺

    With One Good Eye . . .

At the end of November I had lens implant surgery in my right eye. I went into it with a "Murphy's Law" attitude (which was a dumb thing to do) and sure enough, the day after the surgery the doctor discovered the new lens had "moved" and it had to be redone. Right now I'm working primarily with one good eye so if you see an unusual number of typos in this edition, that's the reason. The doctor says it's going to get better. Your prayers and good wishes are appreciated.
