Barbara Morris: Retirement Living: La Dolce Vita?

I recently contributed to a booklet , "Tips, Tools and Resources for The Second Half of Life" published by Paulette Ensign at Tips Products International. I sent each subscriber a link to download the booklet, and just in case you missed it, here is the link.

For my part of the project, I had to distill the best of what I know about managing the aging process into five tips. Deciding what to say wasn't easy. I am always aware that something about my take on managing the aging process probably offends someone. When you are at a place in life where you can't do a whole lot to change your circumstances, or, even if you are happy with your life, you don't need some know-it-all telling you that your lifestyle sucks.

Mary Lloyd: You DO Have Time—Really!

Most of us spend our days trying to get more done than there’s time for.  Or so it seems.  When we retire, we have time in our days but we start to see the whole of our remaining lives as too short to do the things we want to do.  Both of these approaches rely on the mistaken idea that “There’s not enough time.”  Most of what we blame on the amount of time we have is really the result of not using what we have effectively.

Joyce Shafer:
Where Did THAT Belief Come From?!

You’re aware many of your beliefs were imposed on you—and you’re working on this (yes?). See if you’ve ever had a subconscious belief similar to one I was surprised to recently discover.

A cold wind interrupted our early, warmer spring weather. I woke and felt chilled air from my partially opened window and smiled at the warm comfort of my bed. I felt deep appreciation for the comfort and the moment—and that delicious feeling was immediately followed by guilt on behalf of those who may not have a warm bed in their own space. Where did that come from, I asked myself?

Jane Galbraith:  Grief in the Workplace - Nobody Wants to Talk About It

The workplace is like your second family to many people. Let's face it, some people spend more time at work than with their immediate families! After my mother died I don't think that I was a very good employee. Of course, I couldn't show it. You have to try to act like your old "normal" self. That in itself is exhausting.

C. Leslie Charles: Perspective: an Enriching Practice

Life isn't perfect. We learn this lesson early in life but too often our leaky brains lose the tutorial before we can truly internalize it. Perhaps you've fallen into the minefield of perfectionism, or at least stepped in it once or twice. I know a man who is exceptionally good looking but he confesses that when he looks in the mirror what he sees is his receding hair, not his symmetrical features. Don't even ask a woman what she sees!

Lucille Flint: I Considered Retirement a Joke

I absolutely love being my age of 75 years young. Why? I have all the knowledge and hopefully wisdom I I've learned in all those years and experience learned through several successful careers.

When we retired I was excited to do all those things most women plan on. So I did oil painting, genealogy, reading, some writing, baking and played with the grandchildren and little greats. To date, I've been married to love of my life for 57 years.

Lura Zerick:  I'm A High Stepping Dame!

Most of us know that when several people see the same thing, each might have a different version of what was seen. That is also true when others look at seniors. Many believe that all of us are looking for another bingo game. Wrong!

When they look at me, what they don't see is that I am a well organized great-grandmother on my way to my next event. You see, I'm old only on the outside. When I walk across a room some might think, 'look at that silver-haired old lady trying to make it to the kitchen.' They don't realize that in my mind I am strutting because I am thankful that I can still enjoy the challenges of life.
