Now Is All We Have
by Lura Zerick
Some spend their days, sometimes lives, regretting the past, hating the present and dreading the future. Many of us have been there. Though it takes a while before we learn to appreciate the NOW; we must realize that now is all we have.
We waste years wanting to undo the past; the present is difficult and the future looks bleak. When we finally realize that life is too short to waste, we appreciate the gift of each day. Our new attitude will change our lives.
We have to let go of the past - there is absolutely nothing we can do about it. Now we have the time to reach for the dreams we had years ago. We will be amazed at our success; being confident still seems a new experience. We can do things that we would have avoided in the past, though we might have wanted to do them. We often made excuses why we couldn't or shouldn't.
Sometimes we failed because we thought we would. Never accomplishing anything is really to fail. It is much better to try and fail than never to have tried. We could spend the rest of our lives wondering if we might have succeeded.
Isn't it better to know? If we fail at one thing, we simply go on to the nextdream on the list. We might not win every time but that is no reason to give up.When we believe we can succeed, we usually do. The boost to our confidence is more than can be expressed. The feeling of accomplishment is priceless.
We are no longer the zeros that we saw years ago. We are older people who appreciate our God-given abilities. We now realize that life is too precious to waste; we can enjoy the results of those things we are capable of doing. We can like where we are in life and who we are. Something wonderful could happen today! We enjoy being grandparents and great-grandparents as well as people of accomplishment.
Each of us has abilities that we haven't discovered. Stop and think for amoment. If you had the opportunity to be and do any special thing, what wouldyou choose? When you know what you like to do best you can then go forwardin that area in whatever way will make it possible. You might go back to school or attend adult classes. You might get a book from the library and learn more about your favorite subject. If it is special to you, take the time and make the effort to learn all you can about your subject. Let's celebrate the privilege of being alive; that is something to be grateful for! Search for those special abilities that will help you discover the purpose of your life. Now, begin to be the one you were meant to be!
What are you waiting for?
