Dead Men Don't Have Sex

No, this is not a racy story about sex. It's about a vitally important new book, Dead Men Don't Have Sex: A Guy's Guide to Surviving Prostrate Cancer, by prostate cancer survivor, Robert (Bob) Hill.

The back cover says it's written in a crisp, entertaining style. It is indeed, but it's so much more. It is a thought provoking account (a diary, actually) of author Bob Hill's ordeal with prostrate cancer. It's sobering when you realize that this year alone, about 200,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer.

One thing is certain: You can't know what a beast prostate cancer is until you are the victim. You can't know the questions to ask about the disease when you have not yet "been there and done that." And some of the questions you wouldn't know enough to ask can't even be answered by a doctor unless he has experienced prostate cancer himself. For example, every man wants to know what will happen to his sex life after surgery. A doctor can explain in general terms, but the author tells from personal experience everything you need or want to know, and more, in the chapter "Living Levitra Loca."

By the time you finish reading Bob Hill's "diary" you know a lot about him, and you like him. You admire his strength, and determination. You get to know a man who is aware. For example, he realizes how fortunate he is that his loving wife, Charlotte, repeatedly tells him that his "new reality", the result of surgery, does not matter. She is a gift he gratefully acknowledges and for that, I am recommending both of them for sainthood.

Dead Men Don't Have Sex is a must read not just for men, but also for every woman who cares about the men in her life. It's just 141 pages - devoid of fluff that many authors feel obligated to include to "bulk up" the size of the book. Included are many excellent resources to follow up on.

Be prepared. Knowledge is power especially when it comes to this devastating but beatable disease. Bob Hill's bottom line message is this: There is life after prostate cancer. It will be different, but that's okay because Dead Men Don't Have Sex - or anything else.
