Be Inspried: Meet Ginnie Siena Bivona
by Barbara Morris, R. Ph.
How many women buy their first business at 50...write their first book at 58...sell
their business at 68 and write another book and celebrate their 78th birthday on the
movie set for Little House On the Prairie?
Meet Ginnie Siena Bivona. She has done all that and more.
Her first novel, Ida Mae Tutweiler and the Traveling Tea Party was released in 2000.
On March 7, 2009 a made for TV movie based on the novel premiered; Bound By A
Secret, starring Meredith Baxter, Lesley Ann Warren and Timothy Bottoms. It has
been on TV eight times since the first release and to date has a viewer count of
many millions.
Ginnie is modest about her accomplishments. But she does want to inspire older
women to reach their potential. “I don't rattle on about what I’m doing and have
done to impress women. I want them to know there's nothing to stop them!” At 78,
she is not reticent about revealing her age. “I like nothing better than telling younger
women that IF they believe they can achieve, they will. If they believe it's over at
60, it is.”
She is president of Atriad Press, a publisher of Texas non-fiction. Prior to that she
served as acquisitions editor for Republic of Texas Press. She has written two
cookbooks, a humorous cookbook titled The Seductive Chef, A Cookbook & More for
Lovers, and co-authored Top Texas Chefs Favorite Recipes with Sharry Buckner. Her
favorite book is Notes from a Chameleon, Sort of a Memoir, a finally finished project
that she has been living, writing and illustrating for the past 35 years. It was a
finalist in the Eric Hoffer Awards 2008.
Ginnie is also an artist, in the process of developing a new product for
the craft industry. Her blog is www.ginniebivona.blogspot.com and her web site is
www.ginniebiovna.comLittle by little, I'm discovering older women who are laying the groundwork for a new and better way to age. They are proving it IS possible to avoid many of the mental and physical pitfalls that can accompany the aging process. Not only that, they are proving that you can have a productive fulfilling life at a time when tradition says you should be "over the hill." I am beyond inspired by Ginnie, and I hope you are, too.
